KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 16): Malaysia reported today 62 new Covid-19 cases, which bring the cumulative number of infected individuals in the country so far to 10,031, health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said via Twittter.

Dr Noor Hisham said today that the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country stood at 668.

Of the 62 new cases reported today, 61 were local transmissions while one was imported, according to him.

He said the 61 local transmission cases comprised 41 Malaysians and 20 foreigners, while the sole imported case involved a Malaysian.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were no Covid-19-related deaths reported today, hence the cumulative number of fatalities in the country so far stays at 128.

In a separate statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said the 61 local transmission cases comprised 59 individuals from Sabah and one each from Kedah and Penang.

In Sabah, the 59 cases include 48 from the Benteng LD Cluster, while the Kedah case involves an individual from the Sungai Cluster, he said.

He said the sole imported case reported today involves "a Malaysian, who returned from India".

"(The cumulative number of) Covid-19 cases (in the country) has exceeded five figures (at 10,031),” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He is also mindful of the rising number of active Covid-19 cases and patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU).

“Until now, there are 15 positive Covid-19 cases (patients) being treated in the ICU,” he said. According to him, out of the 15, three need breathing assistance.
