Covid-19: Recoveries outstrip infections in latest 24-hour period

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 22): Malaysia’s Covid-19 recoveries in the 24 hours as of noon today totalled 168, more than double the 82 new infections.

The health ministry said the total number of cases in the country stands at 10,358, with active cases totalling 665, compared with 751 yesterday.

Total recoveries now stand at 9,563 or 92.3% of the total number of cases recorded, said health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

There are currently nine cases that are in the intensive care unit (ICU), with two cases requiring respiratory assistance.

No Covid-19-related deaths were reported today, and the death toll remains at 130 or 1.26% of total cases.

Of the 82 new cases, 72 cases were locally transmitted and 10 cases were imported, said Dr Noor Hisham.

Nine of the imported cases were reported in Kuala Lumpur, involving Malaysians who returned home from India.

Meanwhile, one case was reported in Sarawak which involved a foreign national.

Of the 72 domestically transmitted cases, 60 involved Malaysians and the other 12 foreigners.

Sabah once again accounted for the highest number of new cases today with a total of 60 cases, of which 41 cases (34 Malaysians and seven foreigners) were from the Benteng Lahad Datu Cluster.

Six cases were from the from Pulau Cluster, which involved five Malaysians and one foreigner. Another six cases were reported from the Selamat Cluster, which involve three Malaysians and three foreigners.

A new cluster in Semporna, known as the Bangau-Bangau Cluster, saw five cases involving four Malaysians and one foreigner.

One community infection was found involving a Malaysian, along with another case involving a Malaysian that was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

Over in Kedah, 10 new cases were reported including nine from the Sungai Cluster (all of which involve Malaysians), and one new case was registered from the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) area established in Kota Setar which involved a Malaysian.

In Selangor, one case was detected during a pre-procedure test at a medical facility. The infected Malaysian was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Sarawak reported one new case involving a Malaysian at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.
