KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): The 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore trial is set to continue today with its chief executive officer (CEO) Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman still on the witness stand.

However, with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the accused in the case, under a two-week home quarantine, it is likely that the trial will be vacated this week.

Najib is under quarantine after returning from Sabah last week, helping his Barisan Nasional (BN) party secure a win in the state.

Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah will have to formally inform and make an application before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on this before it can be vacated.

In the 1MDB-Tanore trial, Najib is facing four counts of abuse of power for using his position as the prime minister, finance minister and 1MDB board of advisers chairman to receive gratification worth RM2.28 billion.

On top of that, he also faces 21 counts of money laundering involving over RM4.3 billion. If convicted, Najib faces up to 20 years' imprisonment.
