KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20): All workers, both in the public and private sector, in areas under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) have to work from home starting Thursday (Oct 22), said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The areas currently under CMCO include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, as well as Sabah and Labuan. The order will be enforced until the end of the CMCO in these areas.

Ismail said the decision was made during a National Security Council (NSC) meeting today chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"Looking at the increasing trend of positive COVID-19 cases in these states and territories, there is a need to tighten the control of movement activities in these areas.

"On the advice of the Ministry of Health, the NSC special meeting today agreed that employees in the public sector and private employees at the management and supervision level do not need to go to the office and only work from home," Ismail said during his daily media briefing today.

Ismail said 800,000 workers in industries and 200,000 civil servants in KL, Putrajaya, Labuan, Selangor and Sabah will be affected by the order – “so a total of one million”.

He added that this was not an advisory, but an instruction from the government.

Meanwhile, as for workers who have to be on-site for work, they will have to undergo swab tests, with Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) to cover the costs for contributors.
