KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): Hong Kong media boss Jimmy Lai (pictured) said he personally had "nothing to do with" a report on alleged China business links of a son of US presidential candidate Joe Biden, Reuters reported

Lai, however, said “funds from his private firm had been used to fund it”.

He also said “sorry” on Twitter that his famous newspaper Apple Daily was “implicated” in an article by US-based broadcaster NBC.

NBC reported on “a 64-page document circulating on the Internet” involving “purported connections” between Hunter Biden (Joe Biden’s second son) and the Chinese Communist Party, alleging his business dealings had "questionable authorship and anonymous sourcing".

According to Reuters, Lai added that his newspapers “had not personally commissioned” the document, but he “admitted” that his senior executive Mark Simon had "worked with the project".

"Mark used my private company’s money to reimburse for the research he requested. It’s only US$10,000 so he didn’t have to have my approval," Lai explained also via Twitter.

"I know it is hard for anyone to believe that I didn’t know about it and my integrity is damaged."

Meanwhile, Simon announced in a statement that he has resigned from his post over the issue and apologised for causing "damage to Jimmy on a matter he was completely in the dark on".
