KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) “reminded” owners that they can receive a “vacancy allowance” if their properties have not been able to get tenants over a certain amount of time, FMT News reported today.
DBKL said that this is provided for under Section 162 of the Local Government Act 1976.
“There are many premises, both residential and commercial, that have not been rented out for a long time.
“In accordance with existing acts, DBKL would like to inform (the public) that there is an incentive that can be used, called the ‘vacancy allowance’,” DBKL announced in a statement.
Under Section 162, vacancy allowance can be disbursed after “reasonable efforts have been made to obtain a tenant”.
The property must also had been “been available for rent during the whole period for which the refund is claimed and that it must be in good condition and fit for occupancy”, said the news portal’s report about Section 162.
Applications for the allowance can be made at the DBKL’s HQ or by downloading the form on its website.
DBKL will then carry out a site visit to make sure the owner can be provided with the vacancy allowance.
