KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): Malaysia today recorded 1,304 new COVID-19 cases, after five consecutive days reporting triple-digit infections.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 45,095 cases, with active cases climbing to a fresh high to record 11,822. There were 900 more patients who were cured and were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 32,969.

Currently, 96 COVID-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with 39 requiring respiratory assistance.

The Klang Valley today saw a spike of 567 cases, an increase of 2.5 times from 224 cases reported yesterday, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at a media briefing today.

This comprised Selangor with 364 cases and 202 cases in Kuala Lumpur — the highest daily figure recorded for these two areas since the pandemic hit the country in January. Meanwhile, Putrajaya only has one case.

“From 567 cases reported in Klang Valley, some 488 cases or 86.1% came from existing clusters,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Dr Noor Hisham said the spike of COVID-19 cases in the Klang Valley was due to the population density and the interstate movement of people.

Compared to the movement of people from red zones in Sabah to the peninsula, he said at least the Ministry can screen and identify them when they leave Sabah.

Sabah again topped the list with the most COVID-19 cases as the State recorded 556 cases, representing about 42.6% of today’s new cases.

Only one death was reported today, bringing the total number of deaths to 304. This involved a 70-year-old man who died in Tuaran Hospital in Sabah. Dr Noor Hisham said the deceased had health complications, such as high blood pressure.

Meanwhile, only four confirmed infections were imported cases — involving Malaysians — from the 1,304 new cases nationwide.

“Three Malaysians had returned from Saudi Arabia and the other from Egypt,” he said.
