KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 14): Malaysia today saw 1,114 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 46,209.

Total active cases rose to a record high of 12,131. Of these, 103 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), with 43 requiring respiratory assistance, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

Meanwhile, 803 patients were cured and discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 33,772.

Notably, a spike in new cases was seen in Negeri Sembilan. The state reported 371 new infections (an increase of 33.3%), of which the bulk or 363 cases were found in the Cergas Cluster. Today's confirmed cases alone accounted for nearly 11% of cumulative cases in the state.

Once again, Sabah topped the list with the most new cases — at 391 — representing 35.1% of today’s tally.

The Klang Valley, on the other hand, saw a decline in new cases to 217, of which 145 infections were found in existing clusters.

To date, Sabah continued to top the list of states with the highest cumulative infections to date, with 22,714 cases, followed by Selangor (7,439), Kuala Lumpur (3,501), Negeri Sembilan (3,373) and Kedah (2,255).

Of today’s new cases, a total of 65 cases (5.8%) reported were related to clusters from prisons, namely Tembok cluster (45 cases), the Seberang Perai Prison cluster (14 cases), Sandakan Prison Cluster (three cases), Kepayan Prison Cluster (two cases) and GK Tawau Cluster (one case).

Two deaths were reported today, bringing the total number of deaths to 306. The two Sabahans that died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, involved a 78-year old woman with osteoarthritis and a 51-year old man with high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

There are only two confirmed infections were import cases today, involving one Malaysian and foreigner which returned from Indonesia and Jordan.
