Top Glove seeks clarity over EMCO at workers' dorm in Klang

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): Top Glove Corp Bhd says it is seeking clarification over the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) placed on its foreign workers dormitory in Meru, Klang. 

In a statement, the glove manufacturer said that the Klang Health Office and Klang Police Headquarters had made a visit to the affected dormitory yesterday.

“We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities, to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees towards flattening the curve and containing the situation.

"Meanwhile, we will continue to adhere to Covid-19 preventive SOPs on a stringent basis. Disinfection exercises at our premises and accommodation are also conducted regularly, with all necessary precautionary measures strictly in place,” it said.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was reported to have said today that the dormitory in question would be placed under an EMCO from Nov 17 to Nov 30, after 215 Covid-19 cases were reported there.

It was reported that the affected area includes both male and female dormitories, as well as Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8, Jalan Abadi 10A/KU8 and Jalan Abadi 1A.

Approximately 13,190 staff and some 1,200 residents in the area will be impacted by the move.

According to its annual report for the financial year ended Aug 31, 2020 (FY20), Top Glove has 21,000 employees. It owns 20 terrace houses on Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8, and 13 terrace houses on Jalan Abadi 10/KU8, which serve as accommodation for its workers.

Shares of Top Glove finished 7.46% or 58 sen at RM7.20 today, valuing it at some RM59.01 billion. It was the fourth biggest value loser on Bursa Malaysia.

It saw 79.76 million shares exchanging hands, making it the 28th most actively-traded counter on the local bourse today.
