KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 26): The Teratai cluster, which originated from Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers dormitories in Meru, Klang, did not spread the Covid-19 infection to the surrounding community, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah assured yesterday.
Infections within the cluster have been confined to Top Glove's workers and their close contacts, he told a press briefing.
“For example, 164 individuals who are the workers of the company, live in Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur and they have infected their family members. If I am not mistaken, 71 family members are infected but outside the community, around the Teratai cluster. We have not seen the infection [spread] to the community,” said Dr Noor Hisham at a media briefing yesterday.
Meanwhile, after reporting infection spikes for four straight days — from 299 on Saturday to its daily highest of 1,511 yesterday — new cases from the Teratai cluster fell to 17 yesterday.
To date, 6,506 individuals linked to the cluster have gone for Covid-19 screening, with 4,063 positive cases detected and 2,270 negative; 173 more are awaiting their results.
The cluster now has 3,642 active cases, after 421 patients recovered with no fatalities recorded, according to MoH data.
Dr Noor Hisham also said about 11,215 Top Glove workers have been identified by the ministry for Covid-19 screening. “Those who test positive are admitted to hospitals. Those who tested negative but have been exposed to positive cases, will have to undergo 14-day quarantine,” he added.
Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases dropped to 970 yesterday, with Selangor contributing 115 cases. This brought the country's cumulative Covid-19 infections to 59,817.
