KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27): There will be compulsory Covid-19 screening for all foreign workers in four states and two Federal Territories starting on Dec 1, the Malay Mail reported Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob saying today.

He said the screening will involve foreign workers employed in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

“The Human Resources Ministry had presented the schedules and mechanism for the screening in today’s special National Security Council (NSC) meeting.

“I was made to understand that the first screening will be limited to 100,000 to avoid congestions,” Ismail Sabri told the media in a briefing today.

According to a Bernama report, Ismail Sabri said employers have to arrange an appointment with a private health facility for the RTK Antigen test, ensure the private health facility conducts the test according to the set SOP.

He also revealed that the cost of clinic or hospital services will be borne by the employer, while the cost of the test kit (RM60) would be borne by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) for first time testing only.

Meanwhile, he also said that the Ministry of Human Resources had begun enforcing laws on accommodation and placement of foreign workers under the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

"Yesterday, some factories in several states had action taken against them for not complying with the standards set under Act 446," he said in the Bernama report.
