KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has recalled “a batch” of bottled water imported from Malaysia by Cold Storage Singapore (1983) Pte Ltd, reported CNA yesterday.

This is because “bacteria was detected during a routine sampling of the product”, announced the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) yesterday.

The product Meadows Pure Drinking Water (pictured) “comes in 1.5-litre bottles, with an expiry date of Nov 9, 2022”, according to the CNA report.

The SFA statement explained that the environmental bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa “was found in samples of the water”.

It added that the bacteria can be found in faeces, soil, water and sewage.

"It can multiply in water environments and on the surface of suitable organic materials in contact with water.

“Consumption of products contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause a range of infections but rarely causes serious illness in healthy individuals," said SFA.

Meanwhile operator of supermarkets Cold Storage and Giant, Dairy Farm Group, said in a statement that the 1.5-litre bottles were not sold in Cold Storage stores.

"They were only available in Giant Singapore and have since been withdrawn from shelves," said the group.
