KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): The Teratai cluster, which originated from Top Glove Corp Bhd’s workers dormitories in Meru, Klang, recorded 62 new Covid-19 cases today.

Since the cluster was identified on Nov 7, a total of 6,632 individuals have been screened. Of that, 5,156 individuals have been found positive, based on data prepared by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

There are now 1,510 active cases — meaning those who carry high transmission risks — under this cluster, while 3,646 patients have recovered, with no deaths.

On Wednesday (Dec 2), Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah warned that the Teratai cluster has spawned a second generation of Covid-19 infections — with about 150 individuals within the community, covering Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, having been infected.

This means the infection from this cluster has spread beyond these workers' dormitories, which have been placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on Nov 17 to curb the outbreak, following the discovery of 215 Covid-19 cases there.

Originally meant to last just two weeks, the EMCO has now been extended for another two weeks until Dec 14, due to the persistent high rate of positive Covid-19 cases among the Top Glove workers.

The decision was announced by the Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Monday (Nov 30).

Malaysia recorded 1,141 new Covid-19 cases today, lifting the country's cumulative confirmed infections to 70,236.

Selangor contributed 320 cases, with 155 cases from existing Covid-19 clusters, 96 from the screening of close contacts of Covid-19 positive patients, 68 from other Covid-19 screenings, and one imported case.
