Selangor: Four water treatment plants temporarily shut by odour pollution

PETALING JAYA (Dec 8): Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant, Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plants 1, 2 and 3, were shut down for a while last night to early this morning owing to odour pollution in the raw water source, Air Selangor said in a statement today.

Air Selangor announced early this morning that operations at the four plants were halted from 11.30 pm, yesterday.

Later at about 6am, Air Selangor announced that the Air Rantau Panjang Treatment Plant has been operating again at 3.30am and Selangor River Water Treatment Plant (SSP) 1, 2 and 3 at 5am after readings of pollutants “recorded 0 TON for three consecutive times”.

“The treatment plants are operating. We are doing our best to stabilise the distribution system,” it added.

Meanwhile, more than 800 areas in the Klang Valley have been impacted by unstable water supply and low water pressure as a result of the temporary shutdown of the water treatment plants.

“A total of 861 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat will experience low water pressure and unstable water supply.

“Consumers who are affected are expected to get back stable water supply starting 3pm Tuesday (Dec 8) in stages," Air Selangor said today.

The water supply disruptions affected 886,297 accounts.
