KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 16): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has identified eight new Covid-19 clusters today — three of which were detected in Kuala Lumpur and one in Selangor — with a total of 182 infections among them.

The three clusters in the federal territory — all construction site clusters — are: the Permai construction site cluster detected in Lembah Pantai with 48 positive cases, the Matahari construction site cluster in Titiwangsa with 15 positive cases, while the Laut construction site cluster with eight cases.

The lone cluster in Selangor, namely the Puncak Galaksi cluster involving Kuala Selangor and Klang, has 56 positive cases, said health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at a virtual press briefing today.

The four remaining clusters were found in Sabah, Johor, Perak and Pahang. The Cahaya Matahari cluster, which spanned Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi and Pontian in Johor, has 32 cases. The Seri Tasik cluster, involving Perak Tengah and Kinta in Perak, has seven cases. The Inten cluster in Kuantan, Pahang, has nine cases, while the Bukit Punai cluster in Sabah, has seven cases.

To date, 426 total clusters have been reported in the country since the pandemic began in January. Of these, 230 clusters have been declared ended by the Ministry of Health, as no new cases were reported in 28 days. This includes the Murni cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, which came to an end today.

Meanwhile, 51 existing clusters reported new infections today, with the highest being the Teratai cluster linked to Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers dormitories in Selangor with 143 cases. This is followed by the Usaha cluster, also in Selangor with 79 cases, and the Jalan Stadium construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur with 63 cases.

Malaysia reported 1,295 new Covid-19 cases today — with Selangor contributing the highest number of infections at 481 — which pushed the country's confirmed cumulative infections to 87,913.
