KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 17): Dozens of hospital staff and in-patients at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang have tested positive for Covid-19 infection over the past two weeks, stated a report by Malaysiakini.

The report revealed that the patients were originally tested negative when warded for ailments not linked to Covid-19 infections but “developed” symptoms while in the hospital.

All patients and staff infected have since been moved to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.

The news portal also reported that “Health Ministry officials attended a briefing on a possible Covid-19 outbreak at the hospital this morning”, which was “confirmed” by Selangor Health director Dr Sha'ari Ngadiman.

"I take note that there have been cases [involving staff and patients infected with Covid-19] there.

"This is why the ministry officials were at the hospital to learn more about the issue. As such, I cannot give further comment," he told Malaysiakini.

The same report also stated that “other hospitals across Selangor have also discovered Covid-19 cases among patients in general wards” who were “tested negative upon admission”.

But the news portal also added that “it is unclear if the infection occurred at the hospital or if the patients were already infected upon admission”… “but the virus was in the incubation period at the time of admission”.
