KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 11): Malaysia reported today 2,232 newly-confirmed Covid-19 infected individuals, who brought the nation’s total number of Covid-19 cases to 138,224 so far. Four additional Covid-19 -related deaths were reported today.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said via Twitter today that the four additional deaths brought the cumulative number of fatalities due to the pandemic in the country to 555 so far.

In a separate statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said that out of the 2,232 newly-confirmed Covid-19 infected individuals, 2,226 cases involved local transmissions, while six were imported.

According to him, the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 28,554.

“For (the 2,226) local-transmission cases, 1,769 cases involve Malaysians, while 457 cases involve non-Malaysians,” he said.

Geographically, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor reported today the highest daily number of new Covid-19 cases at 557, followed by Johor and Sabah at 396 and 374 respectively.

Meanwhile, three of the deceased reported today were from Selangor, while one was from Sabah, according to Dr Noor Hisham.

The four deceased comprise two men and two women aged between 47 and 56 years old, Dr Noor Hisham said.

According to him, the deceased comprise three Malaysians and one foreigner.

Elaborating on the fatalities, Dr Noor Hisham said the three deceased from Selangor were all Malaysians, comprising a 56-year-old woman and 47-year-old woman, besides a 54 year old man.

Dr Noor Hisham said all of them died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

Meanwhile, the sole foreigner from Sabah was a 50 year old man, who died at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, according to Dr Noor Hisham. 

Across Malaysia, 187 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit and 87 among them require respiratory assistance, he said.

He said the country reported today, 1,006 persons who have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of fully-recovered cases to 109,115 so far.

Dr Noor Hisham said the 109,115 fully-recovered cases account for 78.9% of the country’s 138,224 Covid-19 cases to date.
