Fire at Langkawi's five-star Andaman Resort

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 13): A fire that “gutted” part of the five-star Andaman Resort in Langkawi yesterday but the blaze has since “been brought under control”, reported The Star.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain told the daily that his men are, however, still putting out remnants of the blaze which started on last night.

"About 40 firemen were rushed to the scene and they managed to put out the fire but it flared up again this (Jan 13) morning.

"We have brought it under control and the men involved are presently clearing the debris and assessing the damage and cause of the fire,” explained Mohamadul Ehsan.

The Star reported that the fire started in the kitchen of resort and spread to the main part of the building.

Meanwhile, the Malay Mail reported that the fire also affected the rainforest nearby.

So far, no fatalities were reported.
