KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 15): Malaysia reported 3,211 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases today, which brought the nation’s total number of infected individuals to 151,066 so far.

Eight additional deaths linked to the pandemic were reported in the country today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today the eight additional deaths brought the cumulative number of Covid-19-related fatalities in Malaysia to 586 so far.

“The total number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 35,253. Until now, there are 204 Covid-19 cases who are being treated in intensive care units,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He said that out of the 204 patients, 87 required respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, 1,939 individuals were reported today to have recovered from Covid-19 and the figure brought the total number of fully-recovered cases in Malaysia to 115,227 so far.

Out of the 3,211 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases reported today, Dr Noor Hisham said five were imported while 3,206 involved local transmission.

The 3,206 local transmission cases comprise 2,045 Malaysians and 1,161 foreigners, according to him.

Out of the 3,211 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases, Selangor reported the highest daily number of fresh cases at 889 followed by Johor and Sabah at 535 and 514 respectively, he said.

Meanwhile, the eight deceased comprised six men and two women aged between 50 and 79.

He said the deceased comprised seven Malaysians and one foreigner.

Four of the eight Covid-19-related deaths reported today were from Selangor while two were from Sabah, and one each from Johor and Kedah, he said.
