KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18): Twenty-two Covid-19 cases have been found among migrant worker tenants staying at AME Elite Consortium Bhd’s worker dormitories in Kulai and Senai, Johor.

In a bourse filing, the group announced that its subsidiary I Stay Management Sdn Bhd had detected 20 positive Covid-19 cases from its foreign worker tenants residing at the i-Stay @ Indahpura dormitory and two cases at the i-Stay @ Senai Airport City workers dormitory as at noon today.

AME Elite said it has carried out contact tracing and facilitated immediate swab tests for those who had close contact with the affected foreign workers.

It said these close contacts are currently undergoing quarantine at the designated quarantine centre for 14 days while awaiting their test results.

“At the same time, the company has set up, on its own initiative, a separate quarantine centre located off-site. This facility has received approval from Pejabat Daerah Johor Bahru to commence operations.

“The authorities at the Ministry of Health have been contacted and the affected foreign workers are currently receiving treatment at the government hospital or undergoing quarantine at our designated quarantine area,” it said.

The group added that to protect the health and wellbeing of other residents at the affected worker dormitories and the local community, it has immediately conducted sanitisation of the premises, including the affected units, common corridors and pathways, high touch surfaces such as entry points, handrails and door handles.

AME Elite said this was on top of the daily sanitation activities for all of its units and facilities since the start of the pandemic.

“The reported Covid-19 positive incidents are not expected to materially affect the financials and operations of the company as there is no disruption to the business operations at i-Stay @ Indahpura and i-Stay @ Senai Airport City. The cost of Covid-19 tests is borne by the respective employers of the foreign workers,” AME Elite added.

At 2:30pm, shares in AME Elite were down 1.37% or three sen at RM2.16, valuing it at RM922.6 million. It saw 482,100 shares done.
