KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 21): Genting Malaysia Bhd’s (GenM) unit Resorts World Genting (RWG) is temporarily shutting operations, in line with the government’s plan to implement the movement control order (MCO) in Pahang, where it is based, from Jan 22 to Feb 4, 2021.

Essential resort-based services such as security, bomba, utilities and clinics, however, will remain operational, it said in a statement on its website today.

“Guests who have made reservations at RWG from Jan 22 to Feb 4, 2021 may contact our call centre at 03-27181118 or write to [email protected] to request for a change of date or refund. We appreciate your patience and kind understanding, while we attend to your requests during this period,” it said.

On Tuesday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the MCO will also be implemented in Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Terengganu from Jan 22 to Feb 4, after increasing cases of Covid-19 were reported in the community states. This brings the entire nation, except Sarawak, under MCO.

This came after the MCO was reimposed on Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor and Sabah, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, from Jan 13 to Jan 26.

At the time, Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan were only placed under the more relaxed Conditional MCO, while Perlis and and Sarawak were put under Recovery MCO (RMCO). On Jan 16, MCO was also implemented in Kelantan until Jan 26.

Shares of Genting Malaysia fell one sen or 0.41% to RM2.40 yesterday, for a market capitalisation of RM14.25 billion.
