Shafee wants Tommy Thomas cited for contempt over contents in his book relating to Cradle Fund CEO murder trial

SHAH ALAM (Feb 5): Lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (pictured) has called for former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas to be cited for contempt over contents in his recently released book that touched on the Cradle Fund CEO murder trial.

Speaking during the hearing of the murder case at the High Court today, Shafee told Justice Datuk Indera Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman that Thomas had allegedly published subjudice statements in the book titled "My Story: Justice in the Wilderness".

Shafee referred to excerpts in the book on pages 409 and 410 which touched on the murder of former Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan.

Shafee is acting for Nazrin's wife Samirah Muzaffar and her two sons who, along with an Indonesian woman who is still at large, have been charged with killing Nazrin.

The prosecution responded to Shafee's request by saying that they would have to discuss the matter with the Attorney-General's Chambers before initiating contempt proceedings.

Shafee then said that he himself would write in to proceed with the contempt bid if the prosecution does not take up the matter.

The next trial date is set for Feb 19.

Shafee had recently sent a letter of demand to Thomas on behalf of another client, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib through Shafee is seeking a retraction, public apology and RM10 million from Thomas for damages to his reputation.

Nazrin, 45, died in a fire that broke out at his two-storey house in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya on June 14, 2018.

Police reclassified Nazrin's death as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code on Aug 3, 2018 following a forensic investigation report by the Fire and Rescue Department, which cited suspected foul play.
