KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 7): The Health Ministry identified seven new Covid-19 clusters today, of which three were linked to workplaces, two to Covid-19 infections among the community, while one each were related to religious activities and high-risk groups.

One of the workplace clusters were detected in Sepang, Selangor, namely the Lembah Selatan construction site, according to health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Several people in the cluster were reported positive for the virus from Feb 6, through targeted screening conducted in a construction site located in Bandar Baru Lembah Selatan, Dengkil, Sepang.

According to his statement, 222 Covid-19 positive cases have been detected, from 424 individuals screened.

The other two workplace clusters are the Jalan Bagan cluster involving Sabak Bernam and Klang in Selangor, with 22 infections and the Jalan Gangsa Dua in Johor Bahru, Johor with 30 infections.

As for the clusters linked to the infections among the community, the Seruas cluster which spans Beluru and Miri in Sarawak has 59 cases; while the Taman Segar cluster in Muallim, Perak (16 cases).

The remaining clusters are the Lorong Mawar cluster — which is linked to religious activities — detected in Hilir Perak, with 14 cases; and the high risk-groups cluster, namely the Ampung Campuran involving Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Hulu Langat in Selangor, with 14 cases.

To date, 895 clusters have been identified in the country, of which 454 have ended — including seven today, namely the Pintu Geng cluster in Kelantan; the Ehsan Ibol cluster in Perak and Selangor; the Persiaran Heights cluster in Negeri Sembilan; the Langkasuka cluster in Johor; the Wawasan cluster in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya; the Jalan BBN cluster in Negeri Sembilan and the Texmile cluster in Selangor.

So far, there are still 441 active clusters. Of these, 81 clusters reported new infections today, led by the Industri Serkam cluster in Melaka (246 cases), Gudang Salak Tinggi cluster in Selangor (127 cases), and the Lembah Selatan construction site cluster (99).

Malaysia today recorded 3,731 new Covid-19 infections, bringing total cases up to 242,452.
