KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 9): The government has demanded an apology from an Umno leader for claiming that the quarantine period for ministers returning from overseas trips was shortened because Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pictured) did not want to quarantine himself after his official visit to Indonesia.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said the claim made by Umno supreme council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi was ill-intended and aimed at tarnishing his image.
It added that legal action will be taken against Puad, if he does not apologise and retract his claim.
The PMO said Muhyiddn was issued with a stay at home order and had a quarantine wristband placed on him, when he returned from Jakarta on Jan 5.
“He is currently undergoing home quarantine,” it added.
Earlier today, Puad was reported as saying in a Facebook posting that upon arriving at the Subang Airport, Muhyiddin’s entourage had disclosed to the Ministry of Health personnel waiting to quarantine him, that the premier did not want to submit himself for 10 days of quarantine, resulting in the introduction of a three-day quarantine period for ministers.
