Malaysia sees 2,461 new Covid-19 cases, recoveries almost double that at 4,782

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): Malaysia reported 2,461 new Covid-19 cases today, but the number of recoveries was almost double that at 4,782.

Today was the sixth day running with more recoveries than new infections detected.

With this, the total number of infections to date is 280,272, while total recoveries stand at 244,753, said health director-general (DG) Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement. 

He said there were eight Covid-18 related deaths in the latest 24 hours of reporting, raising the country’s death toll so far to 1,051.

Four of the deaths were registered in Sarawak, while Sabah, Selangor, Kelantan and Perak recorded one fatality each.

The health DG said the number of active cases stands at 34,468, with 207 patients placed in intensive care units (ICUs), including 91 on the ventilator. 

Ten new Covid-19 clusters were detected today, while 11 clusters were considered to have ended. With this, the country's current number of active clusters is 150. 

State-wise, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor once again recorded the highest number of new cases at 1,001, while Kelantan was in the second place with 257 infections, followed by Johor with 233 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 230.
