KUALA LUMPUR (March 11): Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pictured) has filed a defamation suit against former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) women chief Anina Saadudin for alleged defamatory Facebook videos which implied that the minister violated Malaysia’s movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

According to court documents sighted by theedgemarkets.com, Ismail Sabri filed the suit last Friday (March 5) in the High Court here through law firm Messrs Kesavan.

"The defamatory posts by the defendant were unreasonable personal attacks on the character and image of the plaintiff (Ismail Sabri).

"These defamatory statements were posted by the defendant with malicious intent to solely injure the plaintiff’s reputation, image and character.

"Due to the defamatory posts made by the defendant against the plaintiff, the reputation and image and character of the plaintiff have suffered severe loss and damage incurred,” Ismail Sabri’s statement of claim indicated.

Ismail Sabri, who cited in his statement of claim 13 alleged defamatory Facebook posts by Anina, claimed that the posts are untrue.

As part of the suit, Ismail Sabri is seeking today a High Court injunction which will compel Anina to delete the defamatory posts, and stop further posts with reference to Ismail Sabri.

Ismail, who demands that Anina issue a written apology, is also seeking, among others, as an unspecified amount of general, exemplary and aggravated damages deemed fit by the court.

The injunction hearing was fixed this morning before High Court Judge Datuk Seri Mohd Firuz Jaffril.
