KUALA LUMPUR (March 20): Malaysia posted 1,671 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing cumulative infections recorded in the country to 331,713. Four more deaths were reported, raising the death toll to 1,229.

Active cases climbed to 14,442 from 14,360 the day before as new recoveries — which came in at 1,585 — were less than the new infections. Total recoveries stood at 316,042, translating into a recovery rate of 95.28%.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), Selangor posted the highest number of cases by state with 652 new infections, followed by Penang (328 cases), Sarawak (154), Johor (130) and Sabah (102).

A total of 1,669 cases were local transmissions, while two cases were imported.

Four new infection clusters were identified, said the MoH, comprising two community clusters — the Tanjung Genting cluster in Sarawak and the Pulau Pisang cluster in Perak — as well as two workplace clusters, namely the Pekan Nanas Industrial Area cluster in Johor and the Teluk Air Tawar cluster in Penang.

The ministry also updated that as of yesterday, a total of 399,525 people had received vaccination. Of that, 395,006 had received their first dose, while 4,519 had received their second dose.
