KUALA LUMPUR (March 23): Malaysia’s daily new Covid-19 infections rose to 1,384 — from 1,116 reported yesterday — bringing cumulative cases to 335,540.

Six more deaths were reported, raising the national Covid-19 death toll to 1,244, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Active cases climbed to 14,454 from 14,134 yesterday as new recoveries, which came in at 1,058 today, were less than new infections. Total recoveries to date is 319,842 or 95.3% of overall infections.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of new cases at 625, followed by Johor (161), Sarawak (140), Penang (100), Kelantan (65), Kuala Lumpur (64), Sabah (60), Kedah (51), Melaka (45), Pahang (38), Labuan (14), Negeri Sembilan (10), Terengganu (seven) and Perak (four).

Of today’s cases, 1,375 were local transmissions (comprising 870 Malaysians and 505 foreigners) while the remaining nine were imported cases, Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.

The latest deaths all involved Malaysians, comprising three men and three women. They were aged between 56 and 85. Two deaths were reported in Sarawak, two in Selangor, and one each in Kelantan and Johor.

Three new workplace clusters identified

Dr Noor Hisham said three new workplace clusters were identified today in Selangor, Johor and Penang.

They were the Balakang Jaya Dua cluster, which spans Hulu Langat and Kuala Selangor with 37 infections; the Jalan Indah Gemilang Satu cluster in Johor Bahru with 78 infections; and the Teknologi Bukit Minyak cluster with 98 infections in four districts in Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, Seberang Perai Selatan and Barat Daya).

To date, 1,310 clusters have been reported in the country, of which 911 have been declared ended.

Among the clusters that reported the highest new infections today were the Subang Dua cluster in Selangor (185 infections), the Jalan Indah Gemilang Satu cluster in Johor (73), and the Tanjung Suria cluster in Selangor (63).
