KUALA LUMPUR (March 26):  If your driving licence or road tax expire in February and March, you now have until May 31 to renew them, The Star reported Transport Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong (pictured) saying today.

Wee also said that this is the “second extension given” to private vehicle owners, as long as the vehicle's insurance is still valid.

On Jan 29, Dr Wee announced that exemptions were given to private vehicle owners who need to renew their driver's licence and road tax from Feb 1 to March 31 owing to the enforcement of the second movement control order which has since ended. They were then given a 30-day exemption period until April 30.

He added that Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and Competent Driving Licences (CDL) that are expiring in April and May can still be renewed “on June 1 onwards until July 31”, reported the daily.

Dr Wee also called on people to “do their renewals online to lessen the crowd at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices”.
