KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): The Selayang (pictured) Municipal Council (MPS) will be issuing warrant of attachments from April 16 to residents who still had outstanding amounts on their assessment taxes, The Star reported today.

MPS president Shamsul Shahril Badliza Mohd Noor explained that warrant of attachments will give council officers the authority to seize any movable property belonging to the errant ratepayers.

“As of Feb 28, the council was able to collect RM2.71 million in outstanding assessment tax, in addition to RM36.77 million out of RM54 million owing during the first two months of the year,” Shamsul Shahril said at the council’s monthly full board meeting yesterday.

He told the daily that an internal workshop was held last week to help the council was “look at ways to generate an additional RM12.19 million revenue this year, which would bring its total target up to RM205 million”.

“Departments that do not directly generate revenue can come up with activities that can generate some form of revenue as some other financially limited local councils have been doing for years,” Shamsul Shahril said.
