PETALING JAYA (April 5): Property in good location and built by reputable developers are no longer the only criteria to ensure a good capital appreciation as how well the building is maintained determines whether a property remains appealing to buyers in years to come.

Currently, the method in which a property is maintained must also be taken into serious consideration, stressed EdgeProp.my managing director and editor-in-chief Au Foong Yee.

In her welcome address today at the "Excellent Property Management 2021: Future-proof your investment in the new norm" symposium, she reiterated the objective of Malaysia's Best Managed and Sustainable Property Award (BMSPA) as an effort to create awareness and educate property investors on buying only from developers who are responsible. 

“By this, we mean developers who design and build for sustainability. Developers who care for the environment and all their stakeholders, especially the consumers and the community at large,” said Au.

The symposium was presented by EdgeProp.my along with partner Nippon Paint Malaysia and supporting partner Panasonic Malaysia. The symposium is also supported by The Edge Malaysia.

The event was held at the New World Hotel in Petaling Jaya, and was in full attendance with around 200 visitors strictly adhering to social distancing SOPs.

Topics such as "Are property managers prepared for the new normal?", "How to future-proof building safety" as well as "Covid-19 and Strata property management rules compliance", among others, were covered during the event.

Notable speakers during the event included Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers president Adzman Shah, Architect Centre accredited building inspector Anthony Lee Tee and Chur Associates founder and managing partner Chris Tan.

Representatives from the management committee of the award-winning projects also shared their insights on the importance of property management. The speakers are Westside III Desa ParkCity Joint Management Body chairman Ken Yeo Kian Ing, Kiara Park Condominium management corporation secretary and past chairman Lawrence Loh and Sri Penaga Condominium management corporation Khaw Chay Tee.

There was also a panel discussion entitled “How to protect and grow your property value - It’s all about the TEAM!” which was moderated by Au.

The half-day event concluded with two lucky draws with the first round seeing four winners walk away with a Home Safety Inspection package each - courtesy of Architect Centre, while another six winners received a Portable nanoe X Generator from Panasonic Malaysia.

Every symposium participant received a Strata Owner’s Manual & Guidebook (OMG) 2.0 – published by EdgeProp Malaysia and Chur Associates.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit the booths set up by EdgeProp.my, Panasonic Malaysia and Nippon Paint Malaysia.
