PETALING JAYA (April 13): Malaysia will have enough vaccines for 80% of its population by October and if things go according to plan, 80% will have been inoculated against Covid-19 by the end of this year, said Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin (pictured).

Posting on his Twitter account with the title “Bila saya nak dapat vaksin ni?” or “When can I get this vaccine?”, Khairy also attached a graph by the Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply to show the public “the delivery schedule of all the vaccines that Malaysia has obtained, the current status of vaccine registrations, and the targets”, reported The Star.

The graph revealed that about nine million people had registered for vaccination while supply stood at under three million doses, as of this month.

"The supply will start to exceed the registrations by June. It will certainly be completed before the end of the year,” said Khairy, who is also Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.

According to the immunisation programme, the implementation period of the first phase of vaccination is from February to April, involving 500,000 frontliners, including health workers.

The programme will continue with the second phase, from April to August this year involving 9.4 million senior citizens, aged 60 and above, as well as the vulnerable groups with morbidity problems, in addition to persons with disabilities.

The third phase scheduled from May to February 2022 is for individuals aged 18 and above, targeting about 14 million people.
