MoH: Interstate travels caused 6,132 Covid-19 cases, 47 clusters in past six months

KUALA LUMPUR (May 15): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has revealed that 47 Covid-19 clusters with 6,132 cases were linked to interstate travels.

In a statement on its website yesterday, the ministry said the largest cluster was the Pasai cluster in Sarawak.

Originating from Johor, the cluster sparked 2,693 cases and was first reported on Jan 9. It was declared ended on April 12, after no new cases were discovered in 28 days.

The next biggest clusters were the Tembok Mempaga, Tembok Bukit Besi and Kampung Domis clusters with 813, 448 and 442 cases respectively.

The Tembok Mempaga cluster originated from Kuala Lumpur and was found in Pahang. It was first reported on Dec 29 last year and was declared ended on May 13.

Meanwhile, the Tembok Bukit Besi cluster was started by an index case from Johor, before it spread to Terengganu. It was first reported on Jan 26 and ended on April 27.

The Kampung Domis cluster's index case travelled from Kelantan to Selangor. It was announced on April 15 and is expected to end on June 18.

Thirty-two of these clusters have ended thus far. The remaining clusters are expected to end between May 18 and June 10.

Nine clusters declared ended yesterday

Meanwhile, nine clusters were declared ended yesterday.

They were the Jalan Sultan Iskandar cluster in Sarawak (32 cases), Jalan Balakong in Selangor (19), Jaya Setia in Selangor (57), Jalan Cempaka Putih in Johor (10), Industri Parit Raja in Johor (69), Jalan Maju Cemerlang in Johor (39), Jalan Sanyan in Sarawak (147), Jalan Ekar construction site (60), and Telok Mempaga.
