PETALING JAYA (May 19): Real Estate and Housing Developers Association Malaysia (Rehda) Malaysia lauded the Selangor government’s initiative to speed up the vaccination process in the state, said president Datuk Soam Heng Choon (pictured).

“We are supportive of any efforts by any parties to help in expediting the vaccination process. We must remember that we Malaysians are all together in fighting this pandemic irrespective of our allegiance,” he told EdgeProp.my.

On the soon-to-be rolled out Selgate vaccination programme, Soam said many Rehda members in Selangor have expressed their interest. However, the association did not have the number of members who have registered as the programme was announced just a few days ago.

Nevertheless, he remained hopeful of the state government’s efforts to speed up the national inoculation process, in order to achieve the herd immunity which could bring the country’s economic back on track again.

The Covid-19 vaccination drive in Selangor will be managed by Selgate Corp Sdn Bhd, a fully owned subsidiary of Selangor State Development Corp (PKNS).

The Selgate vaccination programme, which is considered as a supplementary effort of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), is expected to begin in June.

Selangor state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, in a Facebook Live media briefing today, said currently, there are more than 3,500 companies, with around one million employees, that have expressed their interest to participate in Selgate.

The state government has initiated the vaccination programme, calling on employers to purchase vaccines for their employees with the objective of speeding up the state’s inoculation effort to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Commenting on PICK, Soam urged the government to look at other vaccines, such as Moderna and SinoPharm which have been approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO), to increase the supply of vaccines.
