PETALING JAYA (May 20): Amid resurgence of Covid-19 cases, Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Malaysia Selangor branch supports government efforts to tighten the enforcement of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) while allowing businesses to keep operations, to ensure the growth momentum continues.

In a media statement on May 19, Rehda Selangor branch chairman Datuk Ho Hon Sang (pictured) raised the concern over the recent call for a “full scale” lockdown in Selangor.

“Industries like real estate, constructions, manufacturing, and other service sectors are on the path to recovery and therefore the momentum should be maintained.

“Any closure of economic activities will result in serious revenue and financial losses causing disruption to all industries and to the livelihoods of many. However, we welcome some businesses which opted for self-imposed shutdown,” said Ho, who is also the vice president of Rehda Malaysia.

Nevertheless, he reiterated that Rehda Selangor welcomes the government’s initiative to implement measures that prioritise the health of the rakyat to reduce the rate of infection and to flatten the Covid-19 curve.

The way forward is to carry out the vaccination programme speedily for the Rakyat and this will be effective to bring the pandemic under control, he said.

Malaysia has recorded 6,806 Covid-19 positive cases yesterday, another new record high since the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020. Over 2,900 cases were in Klang Valley.
