IPOH (May 21): Several places here saw big crowds queuing for last minute shopping yesterday after the announcement of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) to be enforced in several areas in the city, reported Sinchew Daily.

According to the report, hypermarkets, grocery stores and even traditional mom-and-pop shops had big crowds of shoppers getting their daily necessities last night, worried that the upcoming lockdown might affect them.

Things that were being snapped up include sanitising products, toilet paper, rice, instant noodles, canned food, biscuit, bread and vegetables.

Some netizens who spotted the long queue have posted photos on the Viral Perak Facebook page, with many getting worried that the big crowds might cause more infection clusters.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that several sub-districts and localities in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Sabah and Sarawak will be put under EMCO, from tomorrow until June 4.

These areas have experienced a surge in Covid-19 cases with a high infectivity rate.
