KUALA LUMPUR (June 5): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported another day of over 100 coronavirus-related deaths, with 109 fatalities recorded within the past 24 hours as of noon today, pushing the national death toll to 3,291.

The country has had three days of over 100 deaths so far, with the highest ever recorded at 126 fatalities last Wednesday (June 2).

Of the latest fatalities, 33 were recorded in Selangor, 22 in Johor, 12 in Kuala Lumpur, nine in Negeri Sembilan, six in Kelantan, five each in Kedah and Melaka, four in Perak, three in Labuan, two each in Sabah, Sarawak, Penang and Pahang, and one each in Terengganu and Putrajaya.

Today, Malaysia logged 7,452 new daily Covid-19 cases, down from 7,748 yesterday, while cumulative confirmed infections rose to 610,574 cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah noted in a statement today that Selangor continued to post the highest number of new cases at 2,509, followed by Negeri Sembilan (843), Kuala Lumpur (678), Sarawak (651), Johor (412), and Penang (370).

Daily recoveries, on the other hand, came in at 6,105 cases, raising cumulative recoveries to 521,676, representing a recovery rate of 85.4%.

Active cases now stand at 85,607, which marks the fifth consecutive day that the figure has stayed above the 80,000 mark after breaching that level last Tuesday (June 1). This is the highest number of active cases ever recorded since the pandemic started in the country, and is expected to continue to grow if the number of recoveries consistently stay below the number of new infections.

Dr Noor Hisham also reported that 886 cases are being treated in intensive care units, with 446 patients on ventilators.

On top of that, the ministry detected 24 new Covid-19 clusters of infections today, as the number of active clusters rose to 701.

Of the newly detected clusters, 17 were related to workplace clusters, five were community clusters, while one was related to a high risk group and another one related to a higher education institution.
