Malaysia administered 5.11 million vaccine doses as of June 16 — JKJAV

KUALA LUMPUR (June 17): Malaysia had administered a total of 5.11 million Covid-19 doses as of yesterday (June 16), based on the latest data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

A total of 204,839 doses were administered yesterday, with 196,775 individuals receiving their first dose, while the remaining 8,064 received the second jab. 

Notably, this was the second day the country administered more than 200,000 doses of vaccines per day. 

The seven-day moving average of daily doses given stood at 166,280. 

1.48 million individuals have been fully vaccinated, while 2.16 million Malaysians have received only one jab.

Kuala Lumpur reported the highest number of individuals who had received their first dose at 625,467, followed by Selangor (550,681), Sarawak (438,621), Johor (339,542) and Sabah (282,798).

Meanwhile, Selangor recorded 188,497 individuals who had completed their second dose of vaccination, followed by Sarawak (169,172), Johor (143,268), Perak (139,623) and Kuala Lumpur (132,417). 

Yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said China had agreed to contribute 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines made by its drugmaker Sinovac Biotech to the country.

Hishammuddin added that the timely contribution will bolster the vaccination process and assist the ongoing roll-out of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Separately, Malaysia logged 5,150 new Covid-19 infections yesterday — down from 5,419 the day before — bringing total cases nationwide to 673,026.

A total of 84,866 individuals were tested for Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the beginning of the pandemic to 13,522,560. In comparison, 77,065 individuals were tested the day before, with 5,419 of them testing positive for the virus.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 73 Covid-19-related deaths were reported yesterday, including 33 in Selangor, raising the tally of fatalities to 4,142.
