KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Malaysia witnessed a decline in its daily vaccination rate to 180,066 yesterday (June 18) after administering more than 200,000 doses per day in the previous three days.

A total of 147,616 individuals received their first dose yesterday while the remaining 32,450 received their second jab, according to the latest data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).
 
Cumulatively, 5.51 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered thus far, with 1.55 million Malaysians having been fully vaccinated.

With this, Malaysia has administered 2.5 million doses so far in June, representing 45.41% of the total doses delivered to recipients across the nation to date.

Kuala Lumpur remained the state with the highest number of individuals who had received their first dose yesterday at 672,759, followed by Selangor (607,142), Sarawak (531,482), Johor (361,166) and Sabah (305,580).

Meanwhile, Selangor saw 202,143 individuals completing their second dose of vaccination yesterday, followed by Sarawak (174,545), Johor (151,140), Perak (144,086) and Sabah (127,838).

National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said yesterday that Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) candidates will be vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine starting next month.

Khairy said the vaccine shots will be administered at schools that will be used as vaccination centres.

Malaysia’s new daily Covid-19 cases climbed to 6,440 yesterday, bringing total infections in the country to 685,204.

Seventy-four more Covid-19 related deaths were reported and the number of patients in intensive care units declined to 894, of whom 451 needed ventilators to breathe.
