Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination rate climbed to new high of 250,529 doses on June 22

KUALA LUMPUR (June 23): Malaysia set another record with 250,529 doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered yesterday (June 22), compared with the previous day's 235,623 doses, according to latest data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

Of this, 190,244 individuals received their first dose, while the other 60,285 received their second jab.

The seven-day moving average of doses administered stood at 199,660. It is worth noting that National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin previously said that the benchmark for the total number of doses administered daily is set at 200,000 per day from July, and 300,000 a day from August.

In total, 6.3 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered since the beginning of the vaccine roll-out in March, with 1.73 million people fully vaccinated. So far, 14% of the population have at least received their first dose.

On the other hand, the country's new Covid-19 cases stayed below the 5,000 mark for the second day yesterday, with 4,743 infections and 77 Covid-19 related fatalities.

Encouragingly, daily recoveries continued to outpace fresh infections for the 16th straight day with a total of 5,557, bringing down the number of active cases to 62,027.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was quoted as saying that the government had completed the purchase and payment for Covid-19 vaccine supplies to meet demand for vaccination in the country, but the delivery had resulted in a shortage of vaccine supplies.

He added that the national vaccination programme needs to increase the vaccination rate up to 400,000 doses per day in order to achieve the herd immunity target as soon as possible.
