KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases fell to 5,812 today, bringing down the current number of active cases to 60,117.

The latest cases represent a 7.84% positivity rate from 74,148 individuals tested across the country.

Another 82 deaths were recorded — 31 in Selangor, 18 in Kuala Lumpur, eight in Johor, five in Negeri Sembilan, four in Sarawak, three in Labuan, three in Pahang, three in Kedah, two in Penang, two in Kelantan, and one each in Sabah, Perak and Melaka.

The country’s death toll increased to 4,803, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

He said 870 of the Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with 433 needing respiratory assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor reported the most new infections at  2,187, followed by Kuala Lumpur (771), Sarawak (673) and Negeri Sembilan (658).

Meanwhile, 6,775 recoveries were recorded in the 24 hours as of noon, raising total recoveries from the coronavirus to 657,739 or 91% of overall infections, which now stand at 722,659.

21 more clusters detected

The ministry also identified 21 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide, bringing total active clusters to 873.

The new clusters are 18 workplace clusters, two community clusters, and one detention cluster.

They were detected in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Kelantan, Penang, Kedah, Sarawak, Terengganu, Perak and Pahang.

To date, 2,741 clusters have been detected, of which 873 clusters are active.
