KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): Malaysia jabbed 215,968 doses of Covid-19 vaccines into people's arms yesterday (June 25), down from the 268,604 doses administered a day prior.

According to the latest tweet from the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), 148,380 individuals received their first doses, while 67,588 persons got their second doses yesterday.

The seven-day moving average of daily doses administered stood at 218,336. According to National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the government has revised its targets upwards to administer 300,000 doses per day from July and 400,000 per day in August. 

In total, 7.04 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered nationwide thus far, according to the CITF.

At least 15% of the population had received one dose, while at least 6% were fully inoculated.

According to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the country saw 5,812 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, while the number of active cases was down to 60,177.

The latest cases represented a 7.84% positivity rate from 74,148 individuals tested across the country.

Another 82 deaths were recorded — 31 in Selangor, 18 in Kuala Lumpur, eight in Johor, five in Negeri Sembilan, four in Sarawak, three in Labuan, three in Pahang, three in Kedah, two in Penang, two in Kelantan, and one each in Sabah, Perak and Melaka.

The country’s Covid-19 related death toll rose to 4,803, said Noor Hisham in a statement.

He said 870 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), with 433 needing respiratory assistance.

He added that Selangor reported the most new infections at 2,187, followed by Kuala Lumpur (771), Sarawak (673) and Negeri Sembilan (658).

Meanwhile, 6,775 recoveries were recorded, raising total recoveries from the coronavirus to 657,739 or 91% of overall infections, which now stood at 722,659.
