Malaysia sets another record high daily vaccination rate of 340,043 jabs on July 6

KUALA LUMPUR (July 7): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 vaccination rate climbed further to 340,043 yesterday (July 6) from 313,761 the day before — making it the highest number of vaccine doses delivered per day.  This is also the second consecutive day that daily shots given are above the 300,000-mark.

Of this, 206,757 jabs were given as the first dose while 133,286 people had received their second dose, according to the latest tweet by the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), citing data by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

In tandem with the increasing number of daily jabs, the seven-day moving average also rose to 262,230 compared with 246,757 the day earlier.

Selangor recorded the highest number of first dose given at 57,473, followed by Kuala Lumpur (39,031) and Sarawak (27,980).

As for the second dose — those who are fully inoculated — Sarawak led the country with 31,289, followed by Selangor (22,525) and Kuala Lumpur (14,124).

Cumulatively, 9.66 million people have been vaccinated in the country, of whom 20.75% or 6.79 million had gotten their first shots, while the remaining 2.87 million or 8.77% were fully inoculated.

Malaysia reported 7,654 new Covid-19 cases yesterday — the highest level in 31 days since June 5 — pushing the number of active cases to 72,201.

Nearly 43% or 3,260 new cases were detected in Selangor, where several districts and sub-districts are under the Enhanced Movement Control Order for two weeks until July 16, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Kuala Lumpur also saw a drastic increase in new cases with 1,550 compared with yesterday's 819. This is the highest number of daily new infections ever recorded in the capital of Malaysia.

The new cases in Negeri Sembilan, with a population of 1.13 million, were also stubbornly high at 698 yesterday.

The country's Covid-19 case tally stood at 792,693.
