LONDON (July 18): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and finance minister Rishi Sunak have decided to abort their “trial scheme” which originally allowed them to keep working even when they had been exposed to a Covid-19 infected person.

At 0700 GMT (3pm Malaysian time) today, the UK government announced that Johnson and Sunak had come in close contact with a Covid-19 positive case, but would skip self-quarantine in what was termed as a pilot project to test the efficacy of their vaccinations, Reuters reported today

The U-turn came amidst backlash from the UK voters, political opponents and business owners.

"Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have been busted yet again for thinking the rules that we are all following don’t apply to them," Labour Party leader Keir Starmer was quoted saying.

“The way the Prime Minister conducts himself creates chaos, makes for bad government and has deadly consequences for the British public."

Consequently, less than three hours later, the plan was withdrawn.

"He will not be taking part in the testing pilot. He will continue to conduct meetings with ministers remotely," a spokesman said.
