KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): A total of 344,961 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were given yesterday (July 18) across the country, down from 380,440 the day before.

This is the second consecutive day with over 300,000 jabs delivered compared with 400,000 doses previously.

Of the doses administered yesterday, 244,761 individuals received their first dose, while 100,200 were given their second dose, according to the latest tweets by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Among the states and federal territories, Selangor delivered the highest number of daily first dose on Sunday at 70,236 followed by Kuala Lumpur (40,624), Kedah (18,510), and Sarawak (17,944).

This brings the total doses of vaccines administered in Malaysia so far to 14.35 million. A total of 4.53 million individuals nationwide have received their second dose — representing a vaccination rate of 13.85% of the nation’s population of 32.72 million.

Meanwhile, 9.82 million have received at least their first dose.

To date, a total of 1.23 million individuals in the Klang Valley — comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur — have received two-dose vaccinations, which means they are now fully inoculated.

In contrast, 3.87 million individuals in these three states have received at least their first dose, according to JKJAV.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases fell to 10,710 yesterday out of 123,386 individuals tested, lower than the 12,528 cases reported the day before.

Of these cases, the Health Ministry pointed out that 6,317 cases were from Category 1 (no symptoms) and 4,162 cases were from Category 2 (mild symptoms).

Meanwhile, 91 cases were reported under Category 3 (Pneumonia), Category 4 (Pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) recorded 45 cases, and the remaining 95 cases were from Category 5 (Critical & Requiring Assisted Ventilation).

However, despite the low number of cases, active cases as well as daily deaths linked to the coronavirus surged to their record highs yesterday. Active cases climbed to 124,593 while daily deaths rose to 153.
