PETALING JAYA (Aug 17): New prime minister will be named by this Friday, reported Sin Chew Daily today.

The report, citing sources, said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah hoped a new government to be formed as soon as possible to continue the vaccination programme and the country’s recovery plan.

Sources said the King will make the decision based on the declaration letters from the  220 Member of Parliament (MP) and named the candidate who received the majority support will become the next prime minister. 

The sources added that a unity government will not be an option for now.

Earlier today, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Aziz Harun issued a notice to all the MPs, requesting them  to submit a letter stating their choice of candidate to be the country's next prime minister. The declarations should be submitted to the national palace by tomorrow at 4pm. The move comes after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down as the premier on Aug 16.
