Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 vaccination rate dipped to 302,804 doses on Aug 29, 44.9% of population fully inoculated

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 30): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 vaccine doses administered fell to 302,804 yesterday (Aug 29) from 336,642 the day before.

Of this, 142,186 individuals received their first dose, while the remaining 160,618 received their second jab, according to the latest updates on Twitter today by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Cumulatively, 34.03 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered as of yesterday.

A total of 19.39 million people or 59.4% of the nation’s population had received at least the first dose, including 14.65 million or 44.9% who were fully inoculated.

About 6.84 million individuals or 81.2% of the total population of the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday.

Among them, 5.56 million people or 66.1% of the Klang Valley's population were fully inoculated with two shots.

Meanwhile, Johor was the state with the highest number of first doses administered at 27,639 yesterday, followed by Perak (20,931), Kelantan (17,687), Kedah (15,647) and Sabah (12,541).

For second doses, Johor also topped the list at 31,067 yesterday, followed by Selangor (29,039), Sabah (22,829), Kedah (15,271) and Kuala Lumpur (14,874). 

A total of 20,579 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, down slightly from 22,507 for the previous day. This brought cumulative Covid-19 infections in the country to 1.71 million.

Meanwhile, 285 more deaths were reported, raising the death toll linked to the coronavirus to 16,087.
