Over two-thirds of Malaysian adult population fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as at Sept 5

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 6): Just over two-thirds or 68% of the Malaysian adult population had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of yesterday (Sept 5).

According to the country's Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) Twitter page, citing daily and cumulative Covid-19 vaccine administration data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), 15.93 million Malaysian adults had been fully vaccinated despite the decline in daily doses administered to 289,958 yesterday, from 300,501 and 321,349 the days before.

As a result, the seven-day moving average of daily doses administered fell to 328,910 from 330,745 on Sept 4.

A total of 20.54 million people or 87.8% of the country's adult population had gotten at least the first shot, including 15.93 million or 68% who were fully inoculated with two jabs.

Cumulatively, 36.43 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered in the nation as of yesterday.

Johor recorded the highest number of first doses given yesterday at 32,560, followed by Perak (18,073) and Kedah (16,979).

As for second doses, Selangor led the nation with 25,947 shots, followed by Sabah (24,549) and Johor (24,524).

Within the Klang Valley, about 6.94 million individuals or 82.4% of its total population had received at least one vaccine dose so far, while around 5.95 million people or 70.6% of its population had been fully vaccinated, according to the CITF.

Nationwide, the daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses at 289,958 yesterday involved 136,177 persons who received their first dose and 153,841 others who received their second, the CITF said.

Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination scheme started on Feb 24 this year, with then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin kicking the programme off by taking the first jab.

Based on the government's target of having 80% of the country's population of about 33 million people fully vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the nation will need to have about 26 million individuals fully inoculated against the pandemic.

Addressing fully vaccinated Malaysians who received their doses overseas, the JKJAV said these individuals need to submit evidence of their overseas dosages to district health office (PKD) officials at the nearest PKD based on their current location.

“PKD officials will verify and send that information to MySejahtera through the State Health Department and you will be given your digital certificate through the MySejahtera application. Proof of full vaccination is through a physical vaccination card or digital certificate issued by a particular country,” the committee said.
