KOTA KINABALU (Sept 10): The multi-million ringgit Skybridge here which was reported to lead to a dead end instead of a mall will have a link in six months.

According to Kota Kinabalu (KK) mayor Noorliza Awang Alip, the Centre Point Sabah shopping mall management plans to build its own “connecting bridge and entrance” within six months of the completion of Skybridge.

“The seventh entrance, to Centre Point, has not opened yet because the mall had expressed its desire, during the construction phase, to build its own bridge and entrance,” Noorliza said in a statement.

Centre Point will bear the construction cost for the link to the Skybridge.

According to earlier reports, the Skybridge has a length of 440m and comes equipped with escalators, an elevator for the disabled and 20 kiosks connecting Asia City, Api-Api Commercial Centre, Warisan Square and Oceanus Mall.

The Skybridge was officially opened by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor earlier this week but residents soon noticed that it does not have a link to the mall, resulting in jokes and mockery on social media.

The facility is also part of KK’s Skybridge Pedestrian Linkages and Traffic Improvement Works project.
