KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Malaysia's daily number of reported Covid-19 related deaths rose to 487 yesterday (Sept 22) from 334 a day earlier (Sept 21), bringing total fatalities to 24,565 so far, according to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) latest updates.

Out of the 487 deaths yesterday, 161 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, raising the country's cumulative BID tally to 4,809, the ministry said.

"Reporting of deaths is backdated, particularly to include deaths where time is needed to ascertain the cause of death.

"Therefore, trends should be observed from the series based on the date of death (actual deaths),” the ministry said without specifying the actual daily number of Covid-19 linked fatalities that occurred yesterday.

The MoH, however, added that the actual daily number of deaths based on the seven-day average stood at 106 yesterday, compared with 132 a day ago.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that Malaysia's new Covid-19 cases fell to 14,990 from 15,759 the day before.

The latest daily figure raised the nation’s cumulative Covid-19 infections to 2.14 million so far, he added.
